Owner & Therapist | RSW, MSW, MHT-P, MEd, BEd

Our lives are a journey, and when the road feels like it’s closing, we can get consumed by our own thoughts and feelings. We’ll work together to find the path that moves you toward your goals — at your own pace, in the direction you choose.

Joan came to therapy by way of the classroom, teaching for nearly three decades in Kenya and Canada before completing her Master of Social Work at the University of Calgary. Since 2021, she has worked as a mental health therapist supporting youth and adults in community and hospital settings. That background shaped how she practises: plainly, patiently, and without judgment.

Joan works with individuals, couples, and families facing anxiety, depression, addiction and substance use, trauma, grief, emotional regulation, self-esteem, and life transitions. She draws on narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) skills, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based and solution-focused approaches, choosing what fits your needs rather than the other way around. Her practice is person-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive, with particular care for newcomer and immigrant families.

She is an active listener who understands how life can put a mountain between you and what you want. Working together, you’ll look at the challenges honestly and build toward healing and wellness. Joan serves clients in Fort McMurray, Edmonton, and surrounding areas of Alberta.

Outside of work, Joan is happiest in her garden or cooking for a full table of family and friends.
